Look after yourself, those around you and the NHS this winter.
It’s no secret that our NHS services have been under immense pressure throughout the year and faces several challenges, yet everyday hundreds of healthcare workers across our area head into work to support patients, caring for their health and wellbeing.
This winter we can all do our bit to help ourselves, those around us and in turn NHS services. The small actions that we take this winter can ensure that we stay well and that the inevitable pressures on our NHS services are more manageable.
Actions like
- Ensuring that we have a well-stocked medicine cabinet ahead of needing it, will help us treat minor illness and ailments at home and ensuring we wash our hands regularly and stay away for others will help to prevent the spread of viruses.
- Familiarising ourselves ahead of time, with local NHS services and when to use them means if the time should come, we are confident in where to go and in making the right choice for our need. For example, how much do you really know about new services like pharmacy first? Community pharmacies are the NHS in our local area providing advice, guidance and, if required, treatment in a timely fashion and before things get worse.
- Downloading the NHS App to use for repeat prescriptions, managing appointments and checking test results and getting advice for symptoms is a quick and convenient way to get the information we need.
- Ensuring that we are in the best health heading into winter by getting vaccinated, attending regular health checks when invited and learning about any health condition we might live with will give us all a head start in getting winter strong.
- Being kind to ourselves by staying connected, staying active and getting outside will also help us to care for our mental wellbeing. This is especially important if winter does become a more difficult time.
- Finally looking out or others and ensuring that they are supported to seek help early if they start to feel unwell will help to prevent a situation from worsening.
